I have to say, it wasn’t just Alysa Liu who was sensational in that women’s short program of the team figure skating event.
Liu’s score of 74.90 was enough to earn the U.S. nine points for second spot from the session, but it was something truly special from Kaori Sakamoto that scored her a whopping 78.88 and sent the full 10 points over to Japan, as they stalk Team USA from second — as per Lukas Weese’s standings below.
Sakamoto, 25, was a team silver medalist in Beijing and has already confirmed this will be her final Olympic Games.
Liu and the U.S. will have a whole narrative to upset if they are to prevent Sakamoto from earning a golden send-off. The Japanese star looked pretty determined to achieve that as she skated today.
